Mount Ilgaz National Park

Mount Ilgaz National park is located on Ilgaz Mountains, which is the highest mountain chain of the Western Black Sea Region of Turkey, and which is the borderline between Kastamonu Province and Çankırı Province. Coniferous trees are like brushstrokes on snow cover.

 “Kastamonu – ÇankırıIlgaz Winter Sports and Tourism Center” which was established in 1997 encircles Mount Ilgaz National Park and is one of the most attractive places in Turkey for winter sports. Plenty of rare and endemic alpine floras can be found at altitudes of 2000 – 2200 meters. Multiple ski runways and chair lifts are also available in the national park.

Flora: There are 617 plant species have been classified at different levels in Mount Ilgaz National Park. On the lowlands in the north side of the mountain, oak and larsch forests, in the altitude of 1000 - 1300 meters, hornbeam and beech, are seen. Other groups of woody plants and deciduous shrubs are also located in the national park flora.

Fauna: It is believed that 30 species of mammals lives around Ilgaz Mountain .Boar, brown bear, wildcat, iynx, wolf, fox, badger, marten, beech marten, weasel, otters, rabbits, squirrels, hedgehogs, mice, and bats are species that can be listed among them.
